    The Grant Writer supports institutional giving efforts at the Food Depository. Works on a team to prepare grant proposals, reports and other correspondence in accordance with donors’ guidelines and criteria. Develops in conjunction with Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations overall strategy for corporate and foundation giving including identification, solicitation, cultivation and stewardship strategies. Collaborates with other departments to identify top corporate prospects and provides input on partnership development. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the Food Depository’s programs and services.



    • Prepare grant proposals and reports for corporate, foundation and organization partners, under the direction of the Manager of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
    • Maintain an organized calendar of deadlines and tracking in the Raiser’s Edge database
    • Provide institutional donors with written program updates.
    • Conduct research to identify new donors and find supporting statistics for grant proposals.
    • Provide support and background materials in preparation for donor meetings
    • Maintain ongoing contact with program and finance staff to ensure information submitted in proposals is current.
    • Serve as the support for select government grants (USDA, FEMA, and City of Chicago Community Development Block Grants).
    • Assists in updating and maintaining electronic, hard copy and Raiser’s Edge records.
    • Provide other support to the broader Development team as appropriate (i.e. program updates and support at internal and external events)


    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Minimum of 2 years development/grant writing experience.
    • Excellent communications and writing skills.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
    • Detail-oriented and organized.
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. 
    • Proficiency with MS Office- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
    • Raiser’s Edge experience, a plus.
    • Writing sample required.
    • Evening and weekend hours may be required.
