  • Overview

    Oversee major gifts program by supporting the Organization’s fund raising strategy to grow individual major gifts through identifying, cultivating and soliciting high-level prospects, beyond the $10,000 level. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for supporting the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving with the overall strategic direction, management and expanding the major gifts programs.

    This individual will manage a personal portfolio of approximately 125-150 major gift prospects. The Major Gifts Officer will be part of a team responsible for a collective revenue goal of 6 million out of a 20 million dollar individual giving revenue goal. This individual will also work closely with other members of the development and leadership team to support the capital campaign. The candidate will be an individual with a rich development background, who has had progressive and successful development experience in major gifts and capital campaign experience.


    • Support supervisor and team members develop annual plan that includes clear goals and objectives for growing major gifts as well as metrics to monitor success.
    • Identification and Cultivation
      • Collaborate with supervisor and other team members to develop “top prospect” lists based on giving histories, research and anecdotal knowledge.
      • Create individualized cultivation strategies for a select number of donors each quarter based on guidance from senior management, and overall fundraising strategies.
      • Maintain portfolio of 125-150 major gift donors.
    • Solicitation and moves management
      • Support supervisor in planning and executing annual solicitation strategy and moves management process
      • Work with senior management to plan and execute solicitations for major gift donors.
    • Recognition and stewardship
      • Oversee appropriate recognition opportunities for major donors, which may include special events, targeted print and online publications, and/or physical sites for permanent acknowledgements.
      • Collaborate with other development team members on stewardship activities as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ year’s development experience.
    • Experience with capital campaigns and major gift solicitation.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Effective presentation and negotiation skills.
    • Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to actively listen.
    • Team oriented focus with the ability to work independently.
    • Highly organized & detail oriented.
    • Adaptable and flexible in fast-paced environment, able to multi-task and handle several priorities simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on new projects.
    • Proficiency in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
    • Development database experience (Raisers Edge / NXT experience desirable).


    • General office environment; limited exposure to warehouse environment.
    • Interacts with GCFD staff, Board Members, financial donors, volunteers and general public.
    • Local travel depending on events; evening and weekend hours are required.
