  • Overview

    The Senior Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer is responsible for supporting the Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving with the overall strategic direction, management and expanding the major gifts and planned giving programs. Additionally, this individual will be charged with managing relationships and securing support from donors who are capable of making gifts of $ 10,000 and above.

    This individual will manage a personal portfolio of approximately 100-125 prospects, which will include a combination of major gift and planned giving prospects. The Major Gifts & Planned Giving Officer will be part of a team responsible for a collective revenue goal of 6 million out of a 20 million dollar individual revenue goal. This individual will also work closely with other members of the development and leadership team to support the capital campaign. The candidate will be an individual with a rich development background, who has had progressive and successful development experience in major/planned gifts and capital campaign experience.

    Responsibilities

    • Support supervisor and team members to develop annual plan that includes clear goals and objectives for growing major gifts and planned giving as well as metrics to monitor success.
    • Assist in development and implementation of a comprehensive plan for marketing planned giving at GCFD.
    • Identification and Cultivation
      • Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects.
      • Develop “top prospect” lists based on giving histories, research and anecdotal knowledge for major and planned giving donors
      • Create individualized cultivation strategies for a select number of donors each quarter based on guidance from senior management, and overall fundraising strategies.
      • Maintain personal portfolio of 100-125 major gift/planned giving donors (combined).
    • Solicitation and moves management
      • Collaborate with supervisor, other team members and to create, plan execute  annual solicitation strategy and moves management process for major gifts and planned giving prospects
      • Work with supervisor and other senior team members to create, plan and execute solicitation ask of major gift and planned giving donors.
    • Recognition and stewardship
      • Oversee appropriate recognition opportunities for major and planned giving donors, which may include special events, targeted print and online publications, and/or physical sites for permanent acknowledgements.
      • Collaborate with other team members regarding stewardship.
    • Support supervisor with day to day operations related to the Planned Giving Program including strategy, planning, cultivation and solicitation of planned giving prospects  and management of planned giving platform and related vendor relationships
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ year’s development experience
    • Experience with capital campaigns and major gift solicitation.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Effective presentation and negotiation skills.
    • Superb interpersonal skills and the ability to actively listen.
    • Team oriented focus with the ability to work independently.
    • Highly organized & detail oriented.
    • Adaptable and flexible in fast-paced environment, able to multi-task and handle several priorities simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to take on new projects.
    • Proficiency in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
    • Development database experience (Raisers Edge/NXT experience desirable).

    Exposure:

    • General office environment; limited exposure to warehouse environment.
    • Interacts with GCFD staff, Board Members, financial donors, volunteers and general public.
    • Local travel depending on events; evening and weekend hours are required.
